She brings life to earth; she kisses the morning flowers with dew drops.  She awakens, kneeling on a bed of leaves surrounded by raindrops: and lifts her arms to the clouds.  Raine is dressed in delicate silks of mauve hues highlighted with whispers of iridescent sparkle.  The 3 door rhea is cut with many openings thus making this design very delicate.  The egg, cutting and homework instructions will be mailed about 1 month before class.  Please bring back any supplies not used to be used in class.  This is the first time this design has been taught.

An open cut Rhea egg features a natural setting for DiOggie  small baby robin.  It rests in a little hand made nest on a tree limb.  This miniature is no longer being produced as DiOggie (the designer) has passed away making this egg a true one of a kind collectible.  Austrian jewels, of 3 different colors, are used along with diamond cut Morse Code 1.2mm chain to frame the opening.  An arrangement of realistic foliage enhances the top of this little charmer.  A surprise awaits you on the back of the egg...another way of making your egg unique.  The eggshell will be marked, cut and painted so we can get to work immediately.  This scenic egg is easily adapted to any other kind of bird or animal miniature for your future teaching purposes.  Class will begin promptly at 8 am and finish at 10 am.

This is a two day class, held on Wednesday and Thursday.

In this exciting class you will learn how to carve lacey style designs into a Rhea eggshell.  Rhea shells are a wonderful medium for carving, as they are somewhat softer to work with.  They can be easily carved with a dremel style tool.  You can obtain beautiful results that look like you used a higher speed drill.
You will learn how to place your pattern pieces onto the egg and then score the pattern onto it, after which you will learn how to "connect" your design in the open spaces.  I will teach you how to use different textures and techniques to get the lacey look, and then students will apply the techniques they favor to their shell.  Two Rhea eggs will be supplied for each student, one for practicing techniques and the other for the class project.
Students should bring their own Dremel or similar carving tool to the class.  Please ensure you have the correct collet for small 1.6 mm shank dental burs.  It will also be very helpful for you to bring some kind of magnifying headset or glasses.  Much more detailed work can be obtained using magnification.  Students should have carving experience in relief as well as lattice or cut designs.
A list of burs needed will be supplied to each student at the end of the registrations deadline along with any other details.  Burs are not included in the cost of the class.  Students will need to bring them or purchase them in class.  Cost of the bur pack will be sent before class.  Pattern pieces will be sent to students before class so they can work out their design ahead of time if they wish.
Lunch for the two days in included in the cost of the class.
